The “Alcon Aggies” announced their 2005 Scholarship Recipients and honored the recipients at a Scholarship Recognition Dinner on August 3rd.

Scholarship Recipient Group Photo2005 marks the 11th anniversary of the Dr. Richard DeMoye Poe Academic Scholarship. Since its inception, the Alcon Aggie scholarship program has awarded $27,100 to 24 students attending Texas A&M. The scholarship was established in December 1994 by the Alcon Aggies to honor Dr. Richard Poe (A&M class of ’64) at his retirement from Alcon and scholarships were granted to the first recipients in the Fall of 1995.

In 2005, the Alcon Aggies awarded three $1,700.00 scholarships. The 2005 recipients are:

Jessica graduated from Crowley High School in May 2002. While at Texas A&M, Jessica has maintained a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Jessica was awarded the National Society of Collegiate Scholars Award in 2004, was on the 2004 National Dean's List, and was named a Texas A&M Multicultural Services Distinguished Student in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. Jessica also volunteers her time to work with/tutor disadvantaged elementary students, as well as working 15 hours a week as a laboratory assistant at the TAMU Health Science Center.

Amy Risteen is the daughter of Reed and Abbey Risteen (Reed works in Alcon Sales in the Consumer Products division). Amy will enter her freshman year at Texas A&M in the Fall of 2005 and plans to majoring in Finance/Marketing. Amy graduated from Keller High School in May 2005 with a 4.0 cumulative GPA. Amy was also a member of the Choir Council and a member of the All-Area and All-Region Choirs. Amy served on the Student Council as well as being an officer in the Business Partners of America. Amy has worked as a volunteer with Special Olympics, Vacation Bible School in various capacities with her church, as well as serving as tutor to younger students.

Brandon Williamson is the son of Betty and Clyde Williamson (Betty works in Alcon’s R&D Microbiology department). Brandon will enter his freshman year at Texas A&M in the Fall of 2005 – in the Honors Program -  and plans to majoring in Aerospace Engineering. Brandon graduated from Martin High School (in Arlington) in May 2005 with a 13.386 cumulative GPA (out of a possible 15), which ranked him 3rd out of 791 in his class. In high school, Brandon was a member of the National Honor Society and a National Merit Commended Scholar.
