Community Service

The Fort Worth/Tarrant County A&M Club participates in three annual community service activities. We also participate in any other projects that may pop up from time to time.

Tarrant Area Food Bank

Tarrant Area Food BankThe Food Bank provides food to the less fortunate people that live in Tarrant County. Volunteers collect food and provide it to the food bank, stock the shelves, and box food items for distribution.

The Club supports the Food Bank by volunteering to help them with these tasks.

Cowtown Brushup

Cowtown Brush UpThis is an annual activity in October that the City Housing Department promotes. The disabled and elderly all over Tarrant County are allowed to apply to have their home repainted. The applications are then selected based on need. We will be assigned to a house to paint where all supplies are paid for by major donations such as Kelly Moore Paint Co., etc. Afterwards, the City throws a huge party down in the Ft. Worth Stockyards.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for HumanityThis organization coordinates volunteers to build homes for the less fortunate. Volunteers are needed to perform all sorts of tasks: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc. In addition, once a home is built, there are many items that can be salvaged and resold to the public at the Habitat for Humanity Resale Shop. Proceeds from the sales are invested in materials required to build new homes.

Each year, the Club signs up to partake in one of the many Habitat activities.

Hanging Christmas Lights

Residents of St. Francis Village, a non-profit, independent living retirement village, need assistance in hanging holiday lights and decorations on their cottages. Here is a great chance to spend a day outdoors with your Aggie friends. You'll also be helping the elder segment - including some older old Ags! Lights, supplies, and lunch will be provided, but if you have an extra ladder you might want to bring it along.

The Club's annual Christmas light decorating for the residents of the St. Francis Village will be held on Sat., Dec. 6, 2008 at 9:00am. Helping these residents prepare their outdoor holiday decor is a Club tradition. Come out and support this special service project. To sign up, contact Ron Conrad at r.conrad@dhc.net or at 817-939-6134. St. Francis Village is located in SW Fort Worth (Mapson 101U --1 Chapel Plaza, Crowley, TX 76036).

Over 40 residents at the Village need a little assistance decorating their cottages - some are even Old Army Ags. So get in the holiday spirit of giving early this year and give a little of your time on Saturday to some folks who will really appreciate your efforts.
